Life

Almost 8

We have a birthday in our house in T-5 days! Our oldest daughter (D1) is turning 8!!! We love how her bday is close to Valentine’s Day, because sometimes she’ll ask for something after we’ve already bought her bday gifts, and it gives us a chance to get her a little something extra.

I found this Scentsy warmer this past fall, at a big craft/trade show. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland so, obviously, I had to have it. We started a new tradition: the birthday person gets to pick the scent for the week before and of their birthday. Just a little something to get them hyped for their bday. This year D1 picked Peppermint Rush. I let D2 pick the scent for the kitchen, and she went with Rockin’ Raspberry. The house smells interresting, but good.

Where does the time go? One minute I’m being sliced open, the next she’s 5 going off to Kindergarten, and in the blink of an eye she’ll be in college.

It’s true what they say about being a Parent, you need to enjoy your children. Enjoy all of the little moments that make you laugh.

However, If I am being completely honest with Y’all, I mostly enjoy the girls. Some days it’s all I can do to not scream at them at the top of my lungs. (Believe it or not I have on several occasions, and they still come up to me and say, “I love you Mom,” and give me hugs and kisses.) But the majority of the time they’re hilarious humans running around here imagining they’re Jedi fighting off Darth Vader. Or they’re playing Hair Salon and dying their hair crazy colors. (I ALWAYS have my hair colored with unnatural crazy colors. That’s just me.) My youngest would tear strips of paper and say, “These are my puppies and kitties.” She would run around flapping them.

My children bring me so much Joy. I know that I can be hard on them to keep their rooms clean or to do their homework, but they’re turning out pretty awesome so far. Only time will tell…

We try to expose them to age appropriate Geek stuff. My kids know what a Weeping Angel is. We even named our puppy after a Doctor Who character. (More on that when she arrives.) D1 is going to be one for Halloween this year. My kids know and love Star Wars. They know and love Superheroes of the Marvel AND DC variety, including most of the villains. They know who Bilbo Baggans is, and also Gollum. D1 loves Harry Potter, and D2 will once she’s a little older. Of corse they love all things Disney! I know the show can be racey (They’re not allowed to watch certain episodes), but they love Bob’a Burgers. My girls play video games (basic Mario, Smash Brothers, Zelda, Lego everything) and LOVE Legos!

Our girls are 2 years and 3 months apart. So almost 8, and almost 6 in May. D2 always wants to do what D1 is doing. She loves her big sis. We try to not push gender roles on them. We tell them that they can be whatever they want to be, and do anything. Like I said before they love superheroes and Legos. And I don’t mean ONLY the girly or princess Lego sets. I mean they have Batman, Avengers, The Hobbit, and some princess ones. I stay home with the kids like a typical 1950’s housewife, and Hubby goes to work. I am in the process of writing a novel, and have a small photography company, so I don’t have a traditional job. They see that. They ask questions. My answer is, “You have an amazing Daddy, and he works so hard to give us a beautiful life. He makes sure that I can be here for you guys always.” They agree my Husband is amazing. They know that both my Mom, and my Mother-in-Law work. They know my Dad was a Firefighter for 33 years and he’s retired and gets to stay home. They know their Aunt (my Sister-in-Law) is a Doctor (Chiropractor), and they ask other Parents what they do. They see how other kid’s parents work, or don’t. Kids see EVERYTHING even if we don’t realize it.

Ok. Now that I’ve given you more info about our Parenting than you probably cared to know. I’ll leave you with this:

Always tell your children, “I love you,” because they grow up so fast, and they NEED to know! It doesn’t matter how old they are, or if they’re a boy or a girl, they need to know… and frequently!

Have a Terrific Tuesday Y’all!
